Why would my Michigan unemployment benefits be denied due to insufficient base period wages?

Unemployment insurance eligibility is based on how much you earn during the base period. You have to earn a specific amount before you can become eligible for benefits. I don't know the amount for MI but it's probably available on the state's website.

Also, I don't know the specific base period dates for MI, but for most states it is the 4 prior completed quarters. If you applied for benefits in July, 2009 that would be July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009.|||You have to have made a certain amount in the previous quarters to qualify for unemployment. If you really made more than they show on their records working as an employee, and their records are wrong, then you could appeal, otherwise no.|||You didnt make enough money to be eligible for unemployment.|||You were not employed for long enough to get unemployment.
